Here are some examples of TagTracker report for lobsters that have done interesting things: have been out for a long time, have been recaptured numerous times or have moved long distances. When you use the TagTracker 'Recapture Report' window you can obatin a report like these for a tagged lobster that you have caught.

Reading a TagTracker report

The table shows details of the initial release, and each time that this tagged lobster was recaptured. To protect privacy of fishermen who have reported tag recaptures, positions have a random error of 1 nautical mile added to them (this is a condition of use of this data stipulated by the Ministry of Fisheries). Due to this privacy protection mechanism, positions in the table and on the map may be infeasible (e.g. on land or in very deep water) and can overemphasise the extent of lobster movement. However, the distances and bearings of movement in the table are calculated from the actual positions and provide an accurate summary of direction and distance.

The map shows coloured reference points for the initial release and for each recapture.

Green: initial release
Red: last recapture
Yellow: any other recapture
